CaptureGem does some things especially well
CaptureGem is the stronger fit for dedicated adult-cam recording, VR streams, private shows, and very broad Streamlink compatibility. It also includes a live monitor, cross-site groups, a built-in editor, tags, and deletion protection.
Its free version supports manual recording, while Premium adds unlimited simultaneous recordings, automatic starts, reconnects, cross-site groups, and proxy mode. Those are meaningful advantages for people whose workflow centers on cam sites.
Obskura has a more complete video editor
CaptureGem advertises a built-in editor for trimming and combining recordings. Obskura goes further with a proper timeline: split clips, drag trim points, undo or redo changes, zoom in, nudge a cut by a frame, and snap edits to clip, scene, or spoken-word boundaries.
Obskura can also suggest clips from activity, visual, and speech signals. Preview them, keep or reject them in batches, merge nearby moments, then export the result as one finished video or as separate clip files.
Quality-of-life features beyond editing
Add a URL, assign a priority, pause or resume targets in bulk, filter by status, and open a target's activity log when something goes wrong. Finished videos are ordinary local files that remain under your control.
Storage Cleanup previews empty, tiny, incomplete, short, old, or content-mismatched recordings before applying a rule. It keeps originals by default, can move them to the operating system's Trash, and stores a history of each cleanup action.
Visual search can find what appeared on screen, while speech search finds words spoken across one recording, a creator folder, or the full library. Remote Access lets you browse and watch recordings from a phone or another computer without uploading them to a public cloud service.
The proxy features solve different problems
CaptureGem's proxy mode is designed to capture private shows, saved videos, and unsupported streams that are playing in Chrome. On Windows, its guide requires a separate proxy-enabled build, fully closing Chrome, launching Chrome with a batch file, opening the stream, clicking Record, waiting for transcoding, and fixing the recording metadata manually.
Obskura's proxy settings are for a different job: avoiding TikTok detection limits when monitoring many creators. You add and enable proxy URLs in Settings, and Obskura rotates channel checks across them automatically. It does not claim to bypass access controls or replace CaptureGem's private-show workflow.
Which recorder should you choose?
Choose CaptureGem if VR, private cam shows, or its much larger platform list matters most. It is actively developed and has a generous manual-recording option.
Choose Obskura if you want a stronger timeline editor, automatic recording, lower standard monthly pricing, target priorities, encrypted phone viewing, and visual or speech search across a large local library.
