Cookie Policy

Last updated: 5/4/2026

1. Overview

This Cookie Policy explains how Obskura (“we”, “us”, “our”) uses cookies and similar technologies (such as local storage and pixels) on our website and app (the “Service”). It should be read together with our Privacy Policy.

2. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device to store data that can be read by a web server in the domain that placed the cookie. We also use browser storage (e.g., localStorage) for similar purposes such as remembering preferences.

3. How we use cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies to:

  • Keep you signed in and maintain your session securely.
  • Authenticate via Google and Discord without storing your password.
  • Process payments and prevent fraud via Stripe.
  • Remember basic preferences (e.g., UI/theme or cookie consent choices).
  • Improve reliability with non-identifiable diagnostics (if enabled).

4. Types of cookies we use

a) Strictly Necessary (Essential)

Required for the Service to function (e.g., session, CSRF, load balancing). You can’t switch these off in our systems; you can block them in your browser, but the Service may not work properly.

b) Authentication

Used by our identity providers (Google, Discord) to let you sign in and maintain your session. We don’t manage your passwords.

c) Payments & Fraud Prevention

Used by Stripe during checkout and subscription management to enable secure payment flows, recognize your browser, and prevent fraud.

d) Preferences

First-party cookies or local storage to remember your choices (e.g., theme, cookie consent, UI toggles). These improve your experience but are not strictly required.

e) Performance/Diagnostics (Optional)

Non-identifiable diagnostics (e.g., error logs) to improve reliability. If we add analytics (e.g., PostHog/GA), we will update this policy and provide consent controls.

5. Third-party cookies

Some cookies are set by third parties when their services are embedded or used in our flows:

  • Google (authentication)
  • Discord (authentication/community SSO)
  • Stripe (checkout, billing, fraud prevention)

These providers may set cookies on their own domains and process data in accordance with their policies.

6. Managing your cookie preferences

You can control cookies via:

  • Cookie Settings: Manage non-essential categories in Cookie Settings (if available in your account area).
  • Browser Controls: Most browsers let you block or delete cookies. Check settings for Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, etc.
  • Do Not Track / GPC: If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we will treat it as an opt-out of non-essential cookies where legally required.

Note: Blocking essential or authentication cookies may break sign-in, checkout, or core functionality.

7. Retention

Cookie lifetimes vary. Session cookies expire when you close your browser. Persistent cookies last longer (e.g., days to months) to remember preferences or keep you signed in, unless you clear them earlier via your browser.

8. Updates to this Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy to reflect changes to our practices or for legal reasons. If changes are material, we will provide reasonable notice. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
