Authorize a phone or laptop with a short-lived code, then revoke that device from the desktop app whenever needed.
Seek without downloading the whole file
Range requests let the remote player jump through a recording instead of waiting for the entire video to transfer first.
Browse your home recording library from another device
Pair a phone or laptop with the Obskura desktop app. The remote library can browse folders, search recordings, sort results, view metadata, and start playback while the source files remain on the recording computer.
The recording computer must remain powered on and connected because it serves the video. Remote Access is not a cloud backup and does not create another stored copy of the library.
Stream and seek through large recordings
Livestream recordings can be several hours long. Obskura supports byte-range video delivery so the remote player can request the section it needs, seek forward, and resume without transferring the entire file before playback.
Playback quality and responsiveness still depend on the upload speed of the recording computer and the connection available to the viewing device.
Avoid exposing a public media server
Traditional remote-access setups may require an open router port, a public hostname, and a server reachable by anyone on the internet. Obskura uses tailnet membership, paired-device authorization, signed cookies, and filesystem boundaries instead.
A paired device can be revoked from the desktop app. The remote interface is designed for browsing and playback rather than changing recording targets or deleting the source library.
